Classmates of a Southampton TV star who died suddenly have organised a vigil to celebrate his life.

Bafta nominee Chance Perdomo, best known for playing Ambrose Spellman in Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, died in a motorcycle crash, it was announced on Saturday. He was 27.

Born in Los Angeles, he grew up in Southampton and attended Redbridge Community School, where he was head boy.

Fellow classmates and other alumni will be meeting at the Saints Pub in Millbrook at 6pm on Sunday, April 14, to celebrate his life.

Steven Ayres, 27, from Millbrook, has helped organise the event.

He shared many classes with Chance and described him as ‘talented, funny and popular’.

Steven said: “Myself and so many others that went to school with Chance were just so shocked when we heard the news.

“I was in drama class with Chance and I'll never forget the way he would constantly have us laughing.

“He was so bright and talented and that is clear though the incredible things he went on to achieve before his life was cut short.

“We all knew he loved singing and acting – he was always brilliant in school performances.

“He was popular, funny and so talented – it’s just a devastating loss.”

Anyone who attends is asked to wear bright colours to celebrate Chance’s colourful and bright personality.

Chance’s favourite songs are due to be played, which will include small clips of Chance singing parts of his favourite songs himself.

Blue and silver balloons will also be released into the sky from Mansell Park, next to the Saints Pub.

In the run-up to the 2019 Bafta awards ceremony, for which the actor was nominated for his part in BBC Three drama Killed by My Debt, Perdomo returned to his former secondary school to give a talk to Year 10 pupils.

Speaking at the time, Redbridge Community School's headteacher Jason Ashley said he was a 'charismatic, level-headed young man' who was an 'absolute delight' at school.

Steven and fellow former students will be approaching the school today to see if the school would like to be involved in the vigil.
