Bayer Leverkusen made it eight wins in a row on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen which saw them crowned champions of Germany for the first time in their 120-year history.
Xabi Alonso's side remain unbeaten across all competitions this season, and a third of the way to a European treble, with the side with one foot in the semi finals of the Europa League after last week's win and having booked their place in the DFB Pokal final, where they'll meet second tier side Kaiserslautern next month.
The German side have an unassailable 16-point lead with five matches of the season remaining, ending Bayern Munich's 11-year reign as champions of the Bundesliga, having won 25 of their 29 matches in the league this campaign.
Current Europa Conference League champions West Ham will have to recover from back-to-back defeats to beat by far the best team in Germany by at least two clear goals on Thursday night if they are to extend their European journey this season.
David Moyes' side followed up last week's defeat in Leverkusen with a 2-0 defeat at home against Fulham in the Premier League, which in itself damaged their prospects of qualifying for European competitions again next season.
The Hammers dropped out of the top seven as a result of their London derby defeat, now sitting in eighth place, two points off the top seven, which is expected to be enough for European football next season, having also played a game or two more than most of the teams around them.
Sunday afternoon's defeat was just the east London side's second in all competitions since October, however they have won only two of their last 10 games the London Stadium.
Last weekend's meeting was the first competitive fixture between the two sides, though David Moyes has got the better of Bayer Leverkusen in his managerial career before, doing the double over them in the group stage of the Champions League 10 years ago will in charge of Manchester United.
