New partnership provides hope for neighborhoods

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Experts say that often times, emotional and physical health is often overlooked in underserved communities, however, thanks to a new partnership and support from Community Health System, that is now changing for the better.

Every Neighborhood Partnership has teamed with Community to create a Women’s Alliance Group. Each week the women’s group gathers at the Cedar Court Apartments to learn about nutrition and how to battle chronic disease, as well as have open conversations about struggles they face in their daily lives.

“Yeah, Every Neighborhood Partnership was really launched to see our communities healthy and whole,” said Andrew Feil, Executive Director of Every Neighborhood Partnership. “So we do that through a lot of different means and ways, but that’s ultimately like a healthy, whole, thriving community is what we’re after.”

Feil said the goal is safer communities with healthier residents.

“So our neighborhood fitness classes are women’s support group kind of classes fall under that neighborhood work where we’re working in very strategic Southeast and Southwest neighborhoods,” he said.

Angelica Platas is the Health and Wellness Coordinator for Every Neighborhood Partnership.

“So the group is open and all-inclusive, and currently our participants are Latina and Hispanic women from disadvantaged neighborhoods and their age ranges from young adults to seniors,” said Platas.

The partnership and support from Community has allowed women to feel empowered and motivated to live healthier lives.
