Man charged with murder after bicyclist killed in Preston Highway hit-and-run
A woman died in a hit-and-run early Tuesday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Around 12:40 a.m., LMPD Sixth Division officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck near the intersection of Preston Highway and Durrett Lane.
That's just east of the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
LMPD's investigation, along with witness statements, determined that 39-year-old Jennifer Lynn Davis was traveling north on Preston on a bicycle when she was hit by a black pickup truck.
Police say the truck driver failed to stop and render aid to the Davis, continuing to drive northbound.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and they pronounced the Davis dead on the scene.
A short time later, police say a call came into MetroSafe from a man saying he was involved in a crash on Preston.
LMPD officers went to the 3300 block of Preston, where he had stopped.
Police then arrested 36-year-old Juan Alcala, charging him with murder, DUI (aggravated), wanton endangerment, and no insurance.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
