HOUSTON — A man was shot in the head at a pool party Saturday night when gunfire broke out at an apartment complex south of downtown Houston, police say.

This happened around 9:30 p.m. at an apartment on Cullen Boulevard just north of the Gulf Freeway.

According to the Houston Police Department, a large pool party was going on in the apartment's common area when two men started shooting at each other, causing people to run in all directions.

"When all the dust settled, there was a young man, an adult, who was shot in the head at least one time. And there was a female who had fallen and was stepped on as the crowd fled," said Lt. Riley with HPD.

The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The woman was treated at the scene and released.

Police said they don't yet know why the shooting started.

If you have any information about the incident, you're asked to call HPD at 713-884-3131 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
