Pep Guardiola says Kyle Walker "feels good" ahead of Manchester City's Champions League second leg quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Walker, 33, has missed City’s last three Premier League games with a hamstring issue, having sustained the problem while on international duty with England in March.

The 33-year-old was named on the bench for City's 5-1 Premier League win against Luton Town last Saturday, but Guardiola did not reveal whether he is ready to start at the Etihad on Wednesday.

He said: "I am going to see at training. He has had one or two training sessions. He feels good with his mood. I don't know if from the beginning, or from the bench, but he will be with us tomorrow."

Guardiola also revealed that Nathan Ake is also available for the clash against Real. He has not featured in City's last four matches with a calf injury.

Bayern's experience gives 'slight advantage' over Arsenal - Tuchel

Bayern's experience gives 'slight advantage' over Arsenal - Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel believes Bayern Munich have the “slight advantage” over Arsenal when it comes to Champions League experience — but concedes that Arsenal’s hunger to win the competition for the first time could also drive them to victory.

The two teams meet at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, having drawn 2-2 at the Emirates Stadium a week ago.

“I think we have the slight advantage of the experience in our team,” Tuchel told a press conference on Tuesday.

“We have players who’ve won it, we have players who’ve played decisive matches in this competition. But to make it an advantage we have to bring out the very best in us.”

Alexander-Arnond expects next Liverpool manager to have 'winning mentality' to replace Klopp

Trent Alexander-Arnold says Liverpool's next manager needs to have the "winning mentality" to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp announced in January that this would be his final season in charge of the club after nine years at the helm.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has made the bulk of his 220 appearances for the club with Klopp as manager, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and two League Cups under his stewardship.

Klopp's decision to step down means Liverpool are looking for a new head coach for the first time in almost a decade and Alexander-Arnold says the next incumbent has to match his predecessor's desire for silverware.

"As long as that mentality is there — not that it doesn't matter who the manager is — but as long as the dressing room has got that desire that we're trying to win things, it's not a transition season." Alexander-Arnold told Gary Neville on The Overlap.

"If the manager comes in and, within his style, there is that winning mentality, that's how the transition needs to happen."

The Merseyside club are in the process of identifying Klopp's replacement, with Sporting's Ruben Amorim and Brighton & Hove Albion's Roberto De Zerbi among the names under consideration.

Alexander-Arnold, who made his return from injury in Liverpool's shock 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, admitted it would be "weird" to have a new manager in the dressing room.

"It will be a completely different situation and it will be weird to turn up to pre-season, or whatever, and adopt a new playing style," he said.

"Whereas now, I know how the manager wants me to play. I know on the first day of pre-season I'm to jump there,I'm to press here, now the next pre-season is going to be a completely different message.

"It's going to be strange but it will be a new challenge for the team, for the club and the players."

Liverpool take on Atalanta this Thursday hoping to overturn a three-goal first-leg deficit in their Europa League quarter-final tie.

The Merseyside club — third in the Premier League table — return to domestic action against Fulham on Sunday, two points back from leaders Man City.

Henderson targeting England recall after injury woe

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson is targeting an England recall for this summer’s European Championship after “going through hell and back” over the last year.

The 27-year-old was instrumental in Palace’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool on Sunday and has enjoyed a strong return to the starting XI after Sam Johnstone sustained an elbow injury on England duty in March.

After impressing at domestic level he now has set his sights on a return to the national team squad in time for Euro 2024.

“Why not?” Henderson said. “When I was fit in the past I’ve always been in the England setup. You don’t become a bad goalkeeper overnight, if it’s injuries or whatever, sometimes you need a block of work to get back to your best and get match sharpness like every player does.

“My job’s just to be the best I can be for Palace. I’ve got a block of work in there now and I’m starting to get back to my best.

“I’m enjoying my football now, I’ve got a smile on my face. I know I’m fit. I know I’m willing, I know what I’m capable of and I’ve just got to prove that and hopefully I’ll get the nod (for England). It’d be amazing and something that I’d be really happy to get involved in.”

Former West Ham United winger Felipe Anderson has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Palmeiras after deciding not to renew his deal with Lazio.

The Brazilian side said in a statement that the 31-year-old has agreed a three-year deal until December 2027, starting from July 1.

Anderson confirmed he had not agreed a new contract to extend his stay in Italy, meaning he will leave Lazio at the end of the season.

He said on Instagram: “Out of respect for Lazio and its fans who always supported me, I confirm that I have not reached an agreement to renew my contract with the club and I will therefore follow a new path next season."

Anderson made his debut for Lazio in 2013 after signing from Santos. During his initial five-year stint in Rome, he achieved notable success, including winning the Italian Super Cup in 2017.

The following year, he made the move to West Ham, spending two seasons in east London.

After a season-long loan at Porto, he returned to Lazio in 2021. He has made 319 appearances for the club, scoring 58 goals and providing 63 assists.

De Zerbi gives Brighton players days off ahead of Premier League run-in

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has given his players three days off before the build-up begins to the last six games of the season which will determine whether Brighton & Hove Albion qualify for Europe again.

The main aim when the squad returns to training is to improve a tally of four goals during a run of six points from seven games.

De Zerbi said: “The first three days we stay at home and after that we try to improve, try to score more goals, to improve in the last 20 metres.

“Because in the other side of the game (defending) we are doing a good job, not amazing, but we are playing well. In the last 20 metres it is not enough.”

Brighton, knocked out by Roma in the last 16 of the Europa League in March, resume their league campaign at home to Manchester City on April 25.

They are currently tenth in the table, six points behind seventh-placed Manchester United who visit the Amex Stadium on the final day of the season in May.

Rebuilding Old Trafford: What the local residents and businesses think

Most weeks between August and May will see more than 75,000 people descend on Old Trafford to watch Manchester United.

If you take a walk down Sir Matt Busby Way on a matchday, the road is full of pop-up shops selling unofficial merchandise, and supporters — some for the very first time — making their way towards the stadium and food stands.

There is a buzz along the famous road.

But as you make that walk, you might notice the houses that line one side of the street. And as you step closer to Old Trafford, and before the security checks, you’ll spot another street, Railway Road, to the left.

The Mary Earps mural will catch your eye, but if you look beyond that, you will see hundreds of houses. The people that occupy them are Manchester United’s neighbours; many can see Old Trafford from their back garden or window.

To some, they may be the envy of United supporters who have to travel from around the country or overseas to watch their team. But the relationship between the local residents and Manchester United is not as straightforward as you may think.

This is what it is like to live by Old Trafford, told by Dan Sheldon and Mark Critchley

They chased each other with giant beer glasses.

Victor Boniface and Edmond Tapsoba stalked their team-mates, looking for someone to drench. Bayer Leverkusen were finally Bundesliga champions and deep in the heart of the BayArena, it was chaos.

Jeremie Frimpong took refuge in a live television broadcast. Celebrations spilt from private into public, into ongoing interviews and, ultimately, into new ones.

Journalists hung over the interview area railings, clawing at anybody who moved. One asked for pictures. Another wielded a replica Bundesliga trophy, asking for signatures. Xabi Alonso signed it.

As he did, a hydra of reporters grasped over the barriers, fumbling at the most coveted coach in world football.

Everton's Tarkowski says Chelsea defeat is the 'most embarrased' he's felt during his career

Everton defender James Tarkowski says his side’s 6-0 defeat to Chelsea was the “most embarrassed” he’s felt during his career.

Goals from Nicolas Jackson and Alfie Gilchrist in addition to four goals from Cole Palmer, sealed a dominant victory for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Tarkowski, 31, apologised to Everton fans for the result, saying that the players had taken full responsibility for the defeat.

He told Monday Night Football: “We underperformed. It is the most embarrassed I’ve felt as an individual and as part of a team during my time as a footballer.

“We can only apologise to the fans that spend their hard-earned money, traveling across the country supporting us. For them to turn on a Monday night and witness that. It is on us the players. No one else.

“We can’t go pointing fingers at managers or staff. They give us everything we need to go out there and perform. Tonight we didn’t. We have to accept that.

“No excuses on our behalf but that was nowhere near the level we expect of ourselves. We need to brush ourselves down, because there is a big few weeks coming up.”

Everton, who are 16th in the Premier League, two points above the relegation zone, are next in action against Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Everton midfielder Dele eyes 2026 World Cup: ‘I know my level as a player’

Everton midfielder Dele Alli says he is targeting a return from injury next season and wants to play at the 2026 edition of the World Cup.

The 28-year-old last played in February 2023, with a series of injury issues keeping him out of action for over a year. In the summer of 2023, Dele opened up on his mental health struggles and revealed he was sexually abused as a child.

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who The Athletic reported in February was ready to take the next step in his recovery from injury, has his eyes set on a return to action in the summer.

Pochettino on Chelsea penalty argument: ‘I will not accept this behaviour’

Pochettino on Chelsea penalty argument: ‘I will not accept this behaviour’

(Alex Pantling/Getty Images)

Mauricio Pochettino has criticised the argument between his Chelsea players over who got to take a penalty during his side’s 6-0 victory over Everton on Monday.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty late into the second half at Stamford Bridge after Cole Palmer, who scored four goals on the night, was fouled by Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson were seen having an altercation in the penalty area, arguing over who got to take the resultant spot kick.

Several Chelsea players intervened in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but it was captain Conor Gallagher who eventually took the ball off Madueke and gave it to Palmer, who dispatched from the spot.

Chelsea took on Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening buoyed by the sensational form of Cole Palmer, who came into the game having been involved in 25 goals in his last 22 games.

And it didn’t take the 21-year-old long to get stuck into Sean Dyche’s struggling side, scoring only the 30th first half hat-trick in Premier League history, and a perfect one at that.

At the break it was 4-0, after Nicolas Jackson had capped off a humiliating half for the visitors.

As is often the way in matches when one team takes a big lead early on, there were fewer goals in the second half, although Chelsea did at least make it 5-0 from the spot. Palmer scored it, but only after an argument between a number of the home side’s players over who was going to take it. Alfie Gilchrist’s first-ever Chelsea goal to make it 6-0 was a much more wholesome affair.

The thumping win leaves Chelsea only three points behind sixth-placed Newcastle United and with a game in hand too.

Here, we break down some of the main talking points from the game.
