40th Avenue West Bridge Not Reopening for Foreseeable Future

DULUTH, Minn.–It will not be a quick fix for the 40th Avenue West Bridge over I-35.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the bridge will be closed for the foreseeable future.

Last Thursday morning, April 11, a northbound truck with a load that was too high, hit the bridge damaging it.  The incident occurred at about 8:30 in the morning.

MNDOT’s Margie Nelson told FOX 21 that they are waiting for a company from the Twin Cities to inspect the bridge to determine the extent of the damage.

Once that assessment is completed MNDOT said it would have an idea of how long the repairs to the bridge will take.
