In a video shot behind the scenes of her ELLE UK May cover shoot, Raye talks exclusively to us about all things love, from the familial to the romantic.

‘When I love something or someone, I really love hard’, she says, defining love as, ‘an overwhelming sense of belonging or desire. I would describe it as warm. Something that feels safe and beautiful.’

The singer admits her relationship with self-love is a more complex one. ‘Me and self-love have a very love hate journey. It’s not simple’ she says. ‘I think there’s things you can do to help your journey of self-love. [For me] there are days when it’s great, and other days when it’s not.’

Raye landed a place at the illustrious BRIT school for performing arts at 14, before dropping out age 17 when she signed to her previous record label, Polydor. She describes the process of becoming an artist as, ‘a gradual and continuous love story [...] it just happened. ’

In her ELLE UK cover story, Raye candidly talks about her seven-year battle to leave her record label, and how she went on to create a number one album and make history at this years BRITs, winning six awards and breaking the record for most wins for an artist on a single night.

Raye's rise shows no signs of slowing down; the video comes hot off the back of her debut SNL performance last weekend, where she played blistering renditions of Escapism and Worth It, backed by an orchestra.
