BENTON, Ark. – A juvenile is in custody after officials with the Benton Police Department said they responded to a threat made to the Benton Junior High School.

Authorities said they were alerted to a threat made on Snapchat on Monday directed at “BJHS” for Thursday.

Police said federal and local law enforcement contacted the person who shared the post as well as the person they believed to be the original poster.

According to the officials, the original poster was identified following a search warrant and confirmation of their IP address. Law enforcement said the original poster was subsequently arrested and remains in custody.

Police officials confirmed the suspect was a student at the junior high and their identity will not be released.

Benton PD officials stated that the threat was determined to not be credible but said all threats are taken seriously by the police department and Benton Public Schools. They also noted the school has been and remains safe to attend.
