HELPING PEOPLE WITHOUT COLLEGE DEGREES LAUNCHED A NEW PROGRAM TODAY, JAMYA DEGREE HELPS ADULTS IN THE COUNTY WHO STARTED SCHOOL BUT NEVER GRADUATED. THEIR FINDINGS SHOW NEARLY 48,000 ADULTS ACROSS SPARTANBURG COUNTY HAVE SOME COLLEGE EXPERIENCE, BUT NEVER GRADUATED. WE VIEW IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY, FRANKLY, WE VIEW IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE DEGREE OF ATTAINMENT AT A RAPID PACE AS WELL. Spartanburg resident Ebony Smith is one of the many people taking advantage of OneSpartanburg Inc’s Re:Degree program."I cried," Smith said. "It was a blessing."Smith says she never finished school because she had to take care of her young children, but with this opportunity to get a degree, she feels a weight has been lifted off her shoulders. "Now that my children are older, I have more flexibility to go back to school," Smith said. "It's been an easy process because before it was almost like employment or school because I had to work full-time being a single parent."Data from OneSpartanburg, Inc. shows that Ebony is not alone. President and CEO of OneSpartanburg, Inc., Allen Smith, encourages everyone in Spartanburg County who has not completed their degree to take advantage.
