Spartanburg resident Ebony Smith is one of the many people taking advantage of OneSpartanburg Inc’s Re:Degree program.
"I cried," Smith said. "It was a blessing."
Smith says she never finished school because she had to take care of her young children, but with this opportunity to get a degree, she feels a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.
"Now that my children are older, I have more flexibility to go back to school," Smith said. "It's been an easy process because before it was almost like employment or school because I had to work full-time being a single parent."
Data from OneSpartanburg, Inc. shows that Ebony is not alone.
President and CEO of OneSpartanburg, Inc., Allen Smith, encourages everyone in Spartanburg County who has not completed their degree to take advantage.
"This is all about getting them back in the game, arming them with the resources, the support, the navigation required to get them to finish; life happens," he says.
Re:Degree was designed to remove obstacles to degree completion, and with this opportunity, Ebony Smith says she will have her degree in the next year and a half.
"I felt like without the degree, people wouldn't take me serious, so I knew I wanted to finish a degree. I just didn't know where to start," she said.
Smith encourages everyone by saying it's never too late.
