MOREHEAD CITY — Immediately following a closed session April 10, the Carteret Community College (CCC) Board of Trustees approved an increase in CCC President Dr. Tracy Mancini’s county salary supplement, effective July 1. The board also approve a $4,000 performance bonus, which will be paid in her July 2024 paycheck.
The actions were taken at the end of the CCC trustees meeting, held April 10 in the McGee Building Boardroom.
Mancini’s annual county supplement is currently $34,124 and will increase to $42,000. She is also paid by the state, with her state salary $156,713. This will make her total combined salary, as of July 1, $198,713.
The board adjourned into closed session at the end of the regular meeting to discuss Mancini’s compensation and evaluations and discuss the winner of this year’s Barwick Award. They announced the salary adjustments after adjourning back into open session. No announcement was made regarding the Barwick Award.
The board named Mancini, former CCC vice president of instruction and student support, as president in April 2020. She replaced former President Dr. John Hauser. Her contract continues through June 30, 2027.
Prior to coming to CCC, Mancini spent 17 years at Durham Technical Community College, where she was an English instructor, department chair, assistant dean and dean. She holds a doctorate in community college executive leadership from Wingate University, master's degrees from Duke University and the University of North Florida and a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary.
During the regular meeting, trustees and the administration honored attorney Derek Taylor for his years of service as legal counsel to the college.
Mancini said Taylor had been on retainer serving as attorney for the college since 2007. He is stepping down to take a position with the town of Morehead City.
College officials also announced that attorney Jane Gordon with Kirkman, Whitford, Brady, Berryman & Gordon, P.A., of Morehead City, has been named as the college’s new counsel.
In other action, trustees approved an alma mater for CCC. The piece was written by an ad hoc committee of faculty and staff, led by the staff Executive Chair Ed Ladenburger.
“Thanks to Ed for our alma mater,” trustee Mary Charles Jenkins said.
The first verse of the song says: “Set by the vast and boundless sea. Empowering Carteret since ’63. Serving students and their community. With learning and opportunity.”
Mancini said the college will unveil the song during CCC commencement exercises, set for May 10.
Also in other action, trustees received a $4,000 gift from the Arts Council of Carteret County toward bringing the ZUZU African Acrobats, who performed April 12 in the gym of East Carteret High School. The contribution was matched with an additional $4,000 from the N.C. Arts Council.
