A prison inmate serving a sentence in Idaho for child pornography was extradited to Utah to face charges for allegedly raping two teenage girls from Lewiston.
William Kyle Currie, 19, has been charged with seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, enticing a minor, rape and another count of enticing a minor based on a Jan. 22, 2023, incident in Lewiston, according to two probable cause affidavits filed in Logan 1st District Court.
In this incident, Cache County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic dispute report. The report stated that a 14-year-old girl ran away from her father and refused to come home. The father said that he found messages on the girl’s Instagram account, where she was allegedly messaging Currie, who was 18 at the time. The father reported that messages were “sexual in nature,” according to the affidavit. There were also nude pictures of the girl sent to Currie, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit also states that the girl’s father again made contact with the Cache Valley Sheriff’s Office that the girl ran away again on Jan. 29, 2023, She was later found at a residence in Weston, Idaho, allegedly with Currie. The father reported that there were messages on the girl’s Instagram account indicating the girl was possibly pregnant.
Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the Instagram accounts of the girl and Currie. Several nude photos of the girls were found on Currie’s phone, according to the affidavit. At the time, Currie was living back and fourth between Idaho and Utah, having possession of his phone in both states and living out of his vehicle or staying with friends in both states.
During an interview with Currie, he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl once. He told investigators that he was addicted to young girls and wanted to get help, the affidavit said.
In another case involving a 15-year old girl from Lewiston, Currie has been charged with three counts of rape. According to that affidavit, the mother of the victim, reported to Cache County sheriff’s investigators, that the girl’s mother reported a sexual offense concerning her daughter. The mother reported she had agreed to let Currie stay at her residence in Lewiston from Jan. 22, 2023, to Jan. 29, 2023.
The mother told investigators that she noticed Currie and the girl “spending a lot of time together,” the affidavit said. She also reported that she knew Currie was involved in an “incident that same day with her daughter’s friend.” The girl was asked by her mother about her relationship with Currie and the girl told her mother that she had had a couple of sexual encounters with Currie.
A forensic interview of the girl was then conducted at the Children’s Justice Center. During the interview, the girl described three separate times of them having sex. Since a warrant had been obtained to search Currie’s Instagram account in another case, a message thread was found between Currie and the 15-year-old girl.
When investigators confronted Currie about his interaction with the 15-year-old, he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl once, according to the affidavit.
Currie was arraigned April 12 during a virtual hearing in Logan’s 1st District Court. Cache County prosecutors asked that Currie be held in the Cache County jail without bail. He was ordered to appear in court again Monday afternoon.
