BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Monday at 4 p.m. was the deadline for candidates in local and statewide races to file with the North Dakota Secretary of State’s office in order to appear on the June 11 primary ballot.

The final candidates are in for the U.S. House, U.S. Senate, governor and lieutenant governor. The races are well underway as we inch closer to the June 11 primary.

In the race for governor and lieutenant governor on the Republican side there are two candidates running. Representative Kelly Armstrong announced his running mate State Representative Michelle Strinden of Fargo at the NDGOP Convention on Saturday. Lt. Governor Tammy Miller chose Department of Commerce Commissioner Josh Teigen as her running mate.

On the Democratic side, State Senator Merrill Piepkorn jumped into the gubernatorial race in late March and announced businessman Patrick Hart as his pick for lieutenant governor at the Democratic-NPL’s convention on Saturday.

Independent candidate Michael Coachman is also still in the race for governor. He announced his bid in February.

In the race for the U.S. Senate, there are two candidates running, one from either party. On the Republican side, incumbent Senator Kevin Cramer is seeking reelection to a second term. On the Democrat side, Katrina Christiansen is looking to change up the race. Christiansen ran unsuccessfully against Senator John Hoeven during the last election cycle.

In the race for U.S. House, the field is crowded with seven candidates. On the Republican side, there are five, including Dr. Rick Becker, Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak, Alex Balazs, Sharlet Mohr and Cara Mund. Mund jumped into the House race on Monday just hours before the deadline.

On the Democratic side, there are two candidates. Trygve Hammer has been in the race since January. He was endorsed by the Democratic-NPL at their convention on Saturday. Hammer will be up against Roland Clifford Riemers from Grand Forks.

The June 11 primary will decide which candidates in these three races will represent each party as the final nominees at the general election in November.
