A 44-year-old man has been cited in the crash that killed a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina Musil, 35, was killed in a crash on Thursday March 28 after a truck drove off the roadway and rear-ended her squad car along Route 23, just south of Perry Road.

According to Illinois State Police, Nathan Sweeney was identified as the driver of that truck. He was issued citations for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Improper Lane Usage, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.  

Musil had been in the department for five years and had previously served as a military police officer in the Army National Guard for four years. She had also been deployed to Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.
