Bucks fans held their collective breaths as Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a left calf strain injury in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game against the Celtics. It’s unclear what exactly happened, but Antetokounmpo ended up on the ground and had to be helped off the court. The Bucks said Antetokounmpo will not return to the game.

After inbounding the ball to Damian Lillard after a C’s bucket, Antetokounmpo started running up the court. But he quickly crumpled to the ground, grabbing at his upper left calf area. He grabbed at the left leg area while he was on the ground before getting helped up off the court.

After the third quarter, Bucks coach Doc Rivers said he hadn’t gotten an update on Antetokounmpo’s status during the one-on-one interview on the TNT broadcast. But Rivers did add: “Hopefully he’ll be alright. I think he will be.”

Antetokounmpo retreated to the Bucks locker room from there walking with a limp. However, on the positive side, he was walking under his own power. Regardless, that’s a huge development if Antetokounmpo is injured in any significant way going forward.

Antetokounmpo had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists on 7-for-11 shooting before leaving Tuesday’s game. At that point in the game, the Bucks held a 73-58 lead as they were dominant early. But the Celtics quickly made a run to make it a competitive game from there.
