A 15-year-old Renton boy was killed after another teenager reportedly shot him Saturday afternoon, police say.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Camas Avenue Northeast around 4 p.m., after a 16-year-old boy said he shot someone, said Renton police Officer Robert Onishi.

The two boys know each other and the shooting does not appear to be random, Onishi said. Few details have emerged about the incident, however on Monday, police said the boys were friends.

Medics took the younger boy to Harborview Medical Center while officers booked the older one into the King County youth detention center, police said.

The 16-year-old appeared in court Monday afternoon, where he was ordered to be held in juvenile detention on investigation of second-degree manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors, he said, have been in touch with Renton police and anticipate getting a case referral from police investigators by Wednesday for a rush-file charging decision.
