HOPKINTON A Milford man was ordered held without bail Friday in Framingham District Court after authorities say he caused life-threatening injuries to a woman the night before in a road rage incident.

Ryan Sweatt, 36, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and driving to endanger. Police also cited him with a marked-lanes violation.

During his arraignment on Friday, he was ordered held pending a hearing to determine whether he is a danger to the public. That hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

According to a Middlesex District Attorney's Office press release, Sweatt was driving a Honda Civic on Hayden Rowe Street (Route 85) and became involved in a road rage incident with another vehicle.

At some point, the other vehicle stopped and several people, including the 26-year-old victim, got out of the car. Authorities allege Sweatt then made a U-turn at a high rate of speed and intentionally struck the victim.

Authorities said the woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries; police arrested Sweatt.

The incident is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the Hopkinton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.

The name of Sweatt's attorney was not available. Defense attorney Charlie Hughes represented Sweatt during his arraignment but has not been assigned the case.
