If you didn’t think Patrick Mahomes was a big deal before (how?), you definitely should now! The Super Bowl-winning quarterback (three Super Bowls, to be exact) has been named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People In The World.

And making that list is a big. deal.

The NFL legend’s accomplishment was announced today, a day before the full list goes live tomorrow. In his interview, the outlet understandably sings his praises as a player, an individual, and a father. The G word is thrown around a lot because it’s hard not to compare the rising star to GOATs like Tom Brady and Joe Montana.

But there’s a big difference between Mahomes and Brady. The Kansas City Chiefs’ leader isn’t sure that he wants to play for as long as Brady did. When the quarterback retired for the second time, he was 45 years old. If Patrick were to play for that long, his 3-year-old daughter Sterling Mahomes — who he shares with wife Brittany Mahomes along with 1-year-old son Bronze Mahomes — would be 19 or 20. He would miss out on a lot of her childhood.

“I would love to play that long,” Mahomes said. “At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter. If I can do that, I’ll continue to play. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go.”

As heartbreaking as it will be for Chiefs fans when Patrick decides to retire, we totally respect him for putting family first. He’s already had to miss Christmas mornings with Sterling and Bronze, and that had to have been gut-wrenching.

When Patrick does have the opportunity to be with his kids, he’s all in. Earlier this year, Brittany posted the cutest picture of him in full Dad Mode, snuggled up with his kids before bedtime, reading them Good Night, God. He also is known to bring them golfing, and even when he’s working, he finds ways to sneak the kids into the Chiefs’ training facility. (And yes, Sterling does make the cutest little workout partner.)

So we can totally understand why Patrick might hang up his helmet and choose quality time over Lombardi trophies.
