A Friday evening showing at the Altria Theater in downtown Richmond came to a halt at 9:45 p.m. due to a fire alarm. There was no fire incident, according to the theater.
The audience watching “TINA — The Tina Turner Musical!” evacuated into Monroe Park in accordance with the theater’s emergency action plan. First responders and theater staff investigated the alarm source and found that there was no fire.
Theater staff decided that the show could not go on after the 30-minute delay.
“The safety and security of our patrons and staff is a top priority,” the theater said in a statement. “Altria Theater and Broadway in Richmond sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this incident may have caused and express our appreciation for the audience’s patience while the issue was handled swiftly and safely.”
The Tina Turner musical will continue for the remaining performances through Sunday. Any patrons who attended the performance on Friday evening can be reseated into a future performance throughout the rest of the weekend, according to the statement.
