It wasn’t the best weather as we saw more rainouts and games being played with 40 mph wind gusts. However there were some big games that got to play and will shake up our top 10 rankings this week.

No. 1 DMA finally got in a good week of baseball. They defeated Newark Charter and Dover during the Week, but ran into William Penn’s John Grybowski on the mound Saturday while taking their first loss of the season in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel. We streamed the game which was well with it even though a few times we had equipment blow off tables and our camera stand. So that game is on our youtube channel to be rewatched. It is worth a look.

Cape continues to roll as they are 9-0 they have been able to escape the weather somehow playing their schedule without any issues. They beat Indian River Tuesday, No.3 Caravel Wednesday and Conrad on Saturday. Sussex Central is also undefeated at 8-0 and how about Concord who is now 7-0. Archmere also stayed undefeated with a big win over No. 7 Saint Mark’s.

As I said last week with all these top teams facing off we could see a shake up on this week’s top ten rankings which is exactly what happened.  Let’s look at this week’s top ten rankings.

No. 1 Cape Henlopen (9-0) continues to roll with three more victories this week over Indian River, No.3 Caravel, and Conrad. They have had a favorable schedule playing six straight home games and will have a seventh this week as they host Laurel on Tuesday. Then they travel to Sussex Tech for a top ten matchup. Looking forward to next week we could have a potential 1 vs 2 matchup against Sussex Central

No. 2 Sussex Central Golden Knights (8-0) defeated Lake Forest and Stephen Decatur last week pretty easily putting up 28 runs while only allowing 2. Noah Burroughs led the offense for Central with 3 homeruns with 9 RBI’s in two games. This week Central hosts Delmar on Tuesday and Dover on Thursday. As I mentioned in the Cape recap they could face Cape next week in a potential 1 vs 2 matchup.

No. 3 William Penn Colonials (5-0)  moved up with a big win over then No.1 DMA on Saturday. They were able to out duel the Seahawks on the mound in a 1-0 victory. John Grybowski got the win in an impressive performance on the mound while Hassan Turner got the game winning RBI. The Colonials don’t have an easy road this week; they will travel to Saint Mark’s on Tuesday, then host Salesianum on Thursday.

No. 4 The Caravel Buccaneers (4-1) rebounded with a win over Laurel after suffering a loss to now No. 1 Cape. It was a tough travel week for the Bucs. Caravel travels to St Georges on Tuesday which is a lot shorter of a trip then Lewes or Laurel. But St Georges is a tough team so it won’t be an easy game for them. Then they host Appoqiunimink on Wednesday Night at 7pm.

No. 5 Sussex Tech Ravens (6-1) beat Smyrna last week, but lost to out of state opponent Queen Anne County out of Maryland. They lost by a score of 2-1 in a very close game to a tough out of state opponent which is why they only dropped one spot. Thai week they host Delmar on Tuesday, and another out of state opponent Kent Island (MD).

No. 6 Delaware Military Seahawks (4-1) (DMA) played four games last week and were able to win three of the four. They beat Newark Charter, Dover and St Elizabeths but fell to now No. 3 William Penn. The four game week paid a toll on the former No. 1 Seahawks and they saw every team’s best since they are the reigning state champs. DMA turns around to play three games this week hosting Wilmington Charter Tuesday, Middletown Thursday, and Wilmington Friends Saturday.

No. 7 Archmere Auks (4-0) come in with a splash this week after defeating then No. 5 Saint Marks 5-4. Carsten Kaiser got his third win of the season for the Auks who have only played 4 games this season. They were supposed to play Salesianum last week also but that game was postponed. This week they face First State Military Tuesday, then travel up Naamans Rd on Thursday to play now No. 10 Concord for a top ten matchup.

No. 8 The Saint Mark’s Spartans (6-1) did end up playing a doubleheader on Saturday as they visited Archmere at Noon, then hosted Hodgson at 4pm. Unfortunately the Spartans suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the now No. 7 Auks. They did rebound to get a  14-4 win over Hodgson later that afternoon. This week they host No. 3 William Penn on Tuesday for a top 10 matchup. We will have this game live on our youtube channel

No. 9 Concord Raiders (7-0) came into the top ten this week top ten after some dominating wins last week. They haven’t played a top ten team yet, but are beating teams like they should. They put up 36 runs last week while only allowing 5. This week they play Newark Monday, McKean Tuesday, and face their toughest matchup of the year No. 7 Archmere Wednesday.

No. 10 The Sanford Warriors (6-1) climbed back into the top ten this week with two shutout wins last week. The Warriors have three games this week home against Wilmington Friends, away at Tatnall on Thursday, then home against Newark Charter Friday. This week will be another good test for Sanford.

This week the weather looks a lot more favorable than the last few. We will see higher temperatures in the beginning of the week, but it will cool off by the weekend with a little rain in the forecast mid week. We have some good top ten matchups so be sure to get out and enjoy some good baseball.
