So, will he or won’t he?

“Yellowstone” fans are dying to know if Kevin Costner will return for the drama’s season finale. It’s something many have had their fingers crossed for.

From what it sounds like, Costner very much wants that as well.

The actor, who starred as the patriarch John Dutton on the show, attended CinemaCon to promote his upcoming film “Horizon: An American Saga.” While there, he was asked about whether he would return to the drama after his departure from the show. (This was all amid tension with show creator Taylor Sheridan over shooting schedules.)

“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to. I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”

Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” spinoffs include “1923,” and there are more prequels and sequels in the works.

After Costner left, Sheridan mentioned to the Hollywood Reporter how disappointed he was by the actor’s departure during the fifth and final season of the show.

“My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project he wanted to direct,” Sheridan said.

There were rumblings that Costner wanted to approve his character’s fate in the show but Sheridan, like many showrunners, didn’t want to give the actor control over the storyline.

“[Dutton] needs to be proactive in what happens and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how [the character’s final arc] might be,” Costner added. “But that’s Taylor’s thing. I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see.”

Whichever way the pendulum swings – in Costner’s favor or not – time is, in fact, running thin when it comes to a deal being struck because while “Yellowstone” has yet to announce a production start date, filming is expected to begin soon and the scripts have already been written, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
