Margaret McGowan ID’d as victim of fatal Taunton crash; driver facing charges

A 67-year-old Fall River woman was identified as the victim of a fatal crash in Taunton last month that left her passenger, a 16-year-old girl, with serious injuries, after officials say a man operating under the influence of alcohol crashed into the car they were driving.

Margaret McGowan was found trapped inside the Honda CRV she was driving on the night of March 10. Police went to the area of 380 Winthrop St. (Route 44) that night for a report of a two-car crash. The 16-year-old, a relative of McGowan, was found sitting outside the vehicle in ”a state of shock,” Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III’s office said in a statement

McGowan was removed from the vehicle and she was taken to the hospital along with the 16-year-old girl. McGowan died of her injuries weeks later, on March 28, according to the statement.
