ST. CHARLES — A man has been charged with holding a woman captive inside a car in a parking garage for about two hours Monday near St. Charles City Hall.
Terrance D. Mahone, 42, faces one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon. The O'Fallon, Missouri, man was in custody Tuesday on a $50,000 bond.
Investigators said the incident started in the nearby St. Charles County courthouse, and Mahone was hiding in the backseat of the woman's car when she returned to it. Police said they think the man and woman are married.
The woman screamed, and Mahone fired a gunshot. He then held her in the car while talking with negotiators who responded to the report of a shooting, authorities say.

St. Charles Mayor Dan Borgmeyer said a mental health professional, hostage negotiators and SWAT team members responded to talk to the man and get him out of the car.
The standoff, in the parking garage near North Second and Monroe streets, ended just after noon. No injuries were reported.
Police said the man was “known” to officers.
Mahone did not talk to investigators after he was arrested, court documents said.
