TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The Zepf Center is in the process of renovating its main location and working to bring more supportive services to kids in the Toledo area.

Using the $2.5 million awarded to it by the Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Lucas County, the Zepf Center is working to improve and expand its services.

Renovations to serve its diverse clientele are the top priority. A close second, creating a space for kids.

“Getting us to the finish line will create the only youth crisis stabilization unit in Lucas County, Zepf Center CEO Deb Flores said.

Elevators, office space, group rooms and the cafeteria are some of the spaces involved in this renovation. But the core of the expansion is a new crisis unit call center.

Flores said the need for crisis intervention is starting to climb at an alarming rate among children.

“Young people who have thoughts of self-harm, they want to kill themselves at six and eight years old,” Flores said.

Once the crisis stabilization unit is complete, the Zepf Center will be able to better provide more comprehensive services to the youth in our area.

“We can bring them here and they can get a psychiatric evaluation, medication if needed and then we have our patient services,” Flores said.
