KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Strong winds moving through East Tennessee have caused some to experience power outages.

Around 3 p.m., The Knoxville Utilities Board reported more than 3,700 people were without power. A spokesperson for the utility provider told WATE the outages were caused by “very strong winds” moving through the area.

Harriman Utility Board also reported more than 1,294 customers were without power, with a large number of those customers being located in the Oakdale area.

Plateau Electric Corporation, which covers areas of Morgan and Scott County, also reported nearly 650 outages in the areas near Sunbright, Burrville, and Deer Lodge.

In Knoxville, wind speeds have reached speeds of approximately 40 miles per hour, according to the WATE Storm Team. The highest wind speed recorded for Friday was approximately 49 miles per hour at McGhee Tyson Airport.
