Pedestrian, 76, hit by car in Pittsfield Township dies

Pittsfield Township police are investigating a weekend crash that left a 76-year-old man dead.

A pedestrian identified as Ernest William Lareau Jr. was crossing Washtenaw Avenue near Foster around 10:50 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle traveling westbound struck him, police said in a release.

The vehicle that struck the township resident was a white Ford Escape driven by an 18-year-old male from Ypsilanti, according to the statement.

"The Pittsfield Township Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the cash and whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor," police said.
