NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department announced that a man has been arrested in connection with the investigation of the fatal shooting of 53-year-old Darriel King.

On April 7, the NOPD reported officers responded to a shooting in the 100 block of North Carrollton Avenue around 11:11 p.m., where they found King suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to a local hospital by EMS, where he later died.

NOPD officials said King was working at the location when a fight happened between him and the suspect. The suspect then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot King in his chest.

Following an investigation, NOPD detectives said they identified 27-year-old Tirrell Gilmore as the suspect.

At a news conference on Monday, April 15, NOPD officials announced Gilmore’s arrest.

According to the NOPD, “Gilmore is currently in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. He will be transported back to Orleans Parish to face a charge of second-degree murder in this investigation.”
