Felony charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a 27-year-old man suspected of gunning down a San Jacinto woman in 2017.

Daniel Antonio Cortez Acevedo of San Jacinto allegedly killed 31-year-old Anna Meza during an unspecified dispute.

Acevedo was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside Friday on suspicion of murder. He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit detectives submitted the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review Monday.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Jesse Martinez said that the identity of Meza’s alleged killer required a “lengthy investigation” spanning well over six years.

The victim was walking in the 100 block of North Dillon Avenue, near Main Street, on the afternoon of Nov. 12, 2017, when she was involved in an encounter with a suspect, whose identity was unknown at the time.

Meza was shot to death in the street, and her attacker fled.

Investigators initially had little information on the circumstances and asked for the public’s assistance, but few clues surfaced.

Martinez did not disclose what detectives uncovered that led them to Acevedo.

He was taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop in San Jacinto.
