KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - According to a release from the club, Sporting KC players and staff will appear on Friday at the Kansas State School for the Blind for a ribbon cutting celebration for the grand opening of a new blind soccer pitch due to a donation from The Victory Project.

The Kansas State School for the Blind and the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation will host the ribbon cutting from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, April 5, for a blind soccer showcase.

According to the press release by Sporting KC, the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation’s values are intended to support the needs of the blind and expand society’s perception of the blind:

“The KC Blind All-Stars Foundation seeks to imagine, execute, fund and support the needs and dreams of blind and visually impaired youth who benefit from the Kansas State School for the Blind and the educators who believe in them. The foundation believes in the unlimited potential of all youth in Kansas who are blind or visually impaired and is dedicated to expanding society’s perception of them as valuable, contributing members of their schools and communities.”

In addition, it’s stated that The Victory Project’s goal is to make the sport of soccer easier to access for children across the region:

“The Victory Project strives to make the sport of soccer more accessible for children across the region through the foundation’s Soccer for All Kids initiatives and through partnerships with numerous local organizations, including Variety KC, Special Olympics, The Whole Person and Midwest Adaptive Sports.”

Sporting KC officials announced they are collaborating with The Victory Project to build a new inclusive field for soccer teams competing in power wheelchairs.
