HONOLULU (Island News) -- Jeremyal Leedy, 40, was indicted Tuesday on eight felony charges, including Attempted Murder in the First Degree.
Charges also include two counts of Second Degree Murder and four firearm offenses. This follows an alleged shooting in Moʻiliʻili on April 2 that left a man critically injured. Leedy, who was also indicted for misdemeanor Harassment by Stalking, is accused of arguing with his ex-girlfriend at her apartment.
According to the prosecuting attorney’s office, he was confronted by a 58-year-old man from a neighboring apartment and reportedly shot the man in the abdomen, hit him with a baseball bat and kicked him in the head. He is also alleged to have fired at a witness before running away from the scene. The next day, Leedy was arrested in Waimanalo at a home.
“Mr. Leedy has six previous felony convictions and was on probation when last week’s shooting happened,” said Prosecuting Attorney Steve Alm. “Leedy was convicted on felony domestic violence charges just 15 months ago and got probation. We will do everything we can to secure a conviction and send Leedy to prison for a long time to protect the public.”
The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney says Attempted Murder in the First Degree carries a mandatory life sentence without parole, while Attempted Murder in the Second Degree mandates a life sentence with the possibility of parole. Leedy is currently held without bail at the O‛ahu Community Correctional Center. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Rose is overseeing the prosecution of the case.
