DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — Davenport police are searching for a man accused of trying to murder his own cousin Thursday afternoon.

The Davenport Police Department said at about 1 p.m., officers learned of a stabbing at a home in the Highland Meadows neighborhood.

Investigators said the suspect Douglas Kidd, 47, stabbed his cousin over 15 times but fled the scene before officers got to the home.

“It’s only a miracle that this lady is alive,” Chief Steve Parker said.

According to the release, the victim is in critical condition. It is not known why Kidd attacked her, police said.

“This was a horrific attack, and we will go to great lengths to get his dangerous individual off the streets,” Parker said. “We are praying for the victim’s recovery following this ordeal.”

The suspect had been living with the victim and her husband for about a year, according to Chief Parker.

“We have spoken to the husband, and he says there have not been any issues going on within the house, within the family, that would lead him to believe that Mr. Kidd would do something of this nature,” Parker said.

Kidd has a warrant out for his arrest for attempted first-degree murder. If you know where he is, call the Davenport Police Department at 863-419-3307 or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 888-400-TIPS (8477).

“I would definitely consider him dangerous, and if somebody does see him or see the vehicle or they think they see him, … contact local law enforcement,” the chief said. “Call 911 and let law enforcement approach him and confirm who he actually is.”

According to Parker, the suspect is known to spend time around the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and he has family in Georgia.
