Some schools closed for a second day Tuesday due to power outages

Thousands of Xcel customers in Colorado were still without power Monday after a windstorm swept through Saturday into Sunday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Some Jeffco schools will be closed for a second day Tuesday due to power outages.

Thousands of Xcel customers in Colorado were still without power Monday evening after a windstorm swept through the Denver metro area and Front Range Saturday into Sunday morning. 

Early Tuesday morning, the Boulder Valley School District reported that power had been restored to Coal Creek Elementary, Gold Hill Elementary, Jamestown Elementary, Nederland Elementary, Nederland Middle-Senior High School and Platt Middle School. Those six schools were closed Monday due to power outages. All schools in the district will be open and operating on a normal schedule on Tuesday.

Three Denver Public Schools schools were closed Monday. As of Monday evening, DPS said those schools would be back open Tuesday. 

More than a dozen Jeffco Public Schools schools and buildings were closed Monday. The district said five locations -- three schools and two buildings that do not serve students -- would be closed for a second day Tuesday. They are: 

  • Applewood Cottages - all
  • Litz Building
  • Maple Grove Elementary School
  • Stober Elementary School
  • Foster K-8
