SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It’s been 10 months since former Sioux Falls public health director Dr. Charles Chima resigned.

The agency and city are still engaged in the employment process, Bill O’Toole of the city’s human resources said in an email to KELOLAND News.

O’Toole said until an appointment is made and confirmed, Amy Richardson, the assistant director of public health, will continue as the interim director. Richardson has served as interim director since at least June of 2023.

Chima’s last day was June 12, 2023. He was appointed by the mayor in April 2021. Chima was unanimously approved by the city council in May and started work in June of 2021.

Chima replaced Jill Franken who retired from the position in April 2021. Franken had announced her planned April retirement in January 2021.
