Missing mother, 2 children found dead in Charlotte apartment

A Charlotte woman and her two young children were found dead more than a week after they were reported missing, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police charged Benjamin Joseph Taylor, 35, with three counts of murder and one count of concealment of death.

Taylor was found on Saturday and arrested in Imperial County, California. He will be held in the Imperial County jail, awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

Shortly before 1:45 p.m. on Friday, officers located human remains at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Orchard Trace Lane. Detectives have identified the victims as Markayla Johnson, 22, Miracle Johnson, 4, and 7-month-old Messiah Johnson.

Prior to Taylor's arrest, police said at a news conference on Saturday that the person they were looking for was in a relationship with Johnson.
