DENVER — A powerful winter storm that canceled and delayed hundreds of flights at Denver International Airport Thursday continued to impact operations Friday.
As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, 27 flights were canceled and 387 were delayed, according to FlightAware.
On Thursday, 831 flights were canceled and 505 were delayed at Denver's airport.
Southwest, SkyWest, Frontier, United, CommuteAir, and Mesa reported the most cancellations.
The airport said it typically handles anywhere from 1,700 to 2,000 flights on any given day.
"The very best thing travelers can do is check with their airline ahead of time," said a Denver International Airport spokesperson. "We will be monitoring the weather and ready to pre-treat and remove snow as needed."
Colorado's largest airport also recommends that travelers check security wait times ahead of travel at FlyDenver.com, and said that de-icing operations could add 15 to 20 minutes to a trip.
American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United have all issued travel advisories. Most airlines suggested that travelers continue to check their flight status online or use the airline's phone app to receive updates.
"Our customer service teams have proactively posted a travel advisory for customers traveling to, from or through Denver, Colorado Springs and Hayden near Steamboat Springs," said Chris Perry with Southwest Airlines. "This advisory offers maximum flexibility to customers who wish to self-serve and alter their travel plans."
Southwest customers can rebook or travel on standby within two weeks of their original travel date without additional charges, according to the alert.
United customers who purchased their tickets on or before Sunday and are set to travel Wednesday, Thursday or Friday can reschedule their trip through March 19 with no fee or fare difference.
