Mom seeks answers after speeding car strikes her son riding his bike

MOORE, Okla. (KFOR) — A mother is demanding justice after her 12-year-old son was hit by a car while riding his bike and the driver took off.

Aubree Engles and her family have lived in their Moore neighborhood for years and she said people constantly speed throughout her families neighborhood.

“My son was left on the side of the road,” said Engles.

What started out as a Tuesday evening bike ride for Engles’ 12-year-old son, soon took a scary turn.

“He was looking at the car behind him and went around a parked car. When he did, there was a car coming at him and so that is the car that hit him on his bike,” explained Engles.

Engles said he was riding his bike to a friends house in their neighborhood right off Santa Fe Avenue and Northwest 9th Street when he was knocked unconscious and the person driving the vehicle drove away before help arrived.

“He was on the curb by himself,” said Engles.

Engles took her son to the hospital and he was left with a major concussion, as well as road rash on his elbows, knees, and back.

Green paint from the impact is still on her son’s now damaged bike.

Engles believes this horrible situation could have been prevented.

“Cars fly through the neighborhoods. There’s no regard for the children,” said Engles. “I’m terrified, let alone I couldn’t imagine him as a child being hit.”

While Engles’ son heals, not only does she want the person who hit him to come forward but she’s also hoping something like this doesn’t happen again.

“I have put posts out trying to see if anyone in the community knows anything because somebody says something.” said Engles. “I would say to anyone driving a vehicle, if you hit an individual, do not leave them sitting on the side of the road.”

Engles asked anyone who may know something to contact her on Facebook or the Moore Police Department.
