Assistant Chief Jason Stille said Little, 32, was at the Royal Hookah Bar & Lounge, 1619 O St., at about 3 a.m. Sunday when a dispute broke out among several patrons, apparently over cutting in line.
Three security guards working at the bar attempted to intervene. Stille said Little or someone else in his group grabbed a baton from one of the security guards. The incident spilled outside, and a scuffle ensued as they tried to get it back.
A 24-year-old security guard then shot Little in the arm and upper chest, police say.
Several people were detained and questioned about the incident, but nobody had been charged in the shooting as of Tuesday, Stille said.
