Bedford native Kross Cassidy finished in second place among sophomores at the NHSCA Nationals at 145 pounds.

There were 96 wrestlers from all over the nation. Cassidy, this year's Virginia Class 6A state champion at 157 pounds after transferring to Fairfax High School in January, was seeded third. His bracket featured a previous freshman national champion as the top seed, a freshman national runner-up as a second seed, along with dozens of state champions and medalists.

Cassidy, who went 32-3 as a freshman in 2022-23 and won a District 5 Class 2A title while at Bedford, defeated 2023 145-pound national runner-up Lorenzo Alston in the semifinals by a score of 11-3. Cassidy lost 8-3 to two-time Georgia state champion Dallas Russell in the final.

Cassidy, whose older brother Kaden won a 2020 PIAA title and is now wrestling at George Mason University, is a two-time NHSCA Nationals All-American.

Kross Cassidy, who was 18-4 this season at Bedford, will be featured in Sunday's all-star dual at 154 pounds in Baltimore.
