Who were the Shore Conference baseball stars from Week 2 of the 2024 season?

The second week of the scholastic baseball season was more complete with only one day interrupted by rain.

Here are some outstanding performances from the period of games from April 9-14.

An emphasis this week was placed on some of the teams who picked up their first wins and some of the teams who are unbeaten.

Mason Pentz (Toms River East): A junior right-hander, Pentz pitched a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks in the unbeaten Raiders’ 4-0 win over Toms River North.

Kellen Campbell (Long Branch): Campbell struck out eight, walked three, pitched four innings of one-hit ball and had an RBI triple and scored a run as the Green Wave defeated Newark East Side 7-3 for their first win of the season.

Nick Russo (Freehold): Russo’s two-run triple with two out in the top of the eighth knocked in the go-ahead runs as the Colonials defeated Neptune 6-3 for their first win of the season.

Nestor Castillo Jr.  (Asbury Park): Castillo went 3-for-4 with three RBI, scored two runs and pitched a five-inning complete game as the Blue Bishops defeated Lakewood 17-5 and snapped, a 27-game losing streak dating back to May 7, 2019.

Erik Johnson (Manalapan): Johnson went 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, five RBI and scored two runs in Manalapan’s 16-5 win over Howell.

Logan Zeitler (Southern): Zeitler’s two-run single to center with two out in the top of the seventh gave the Rams a 3-2 win over Brick Memorial and improved them to 5-0.

Phil Kramer (Raritan): Kramer fired the first seven inning no-hitter of the season in the Shore in the Rockets’ 1-0 win over Holmdel.

Chris Levonas (CBA): A senior right-hander and Wake Forest University recruit, Levonas pitched five innings of one-hit ball with eight strikeouts and one walk in the Colts’ 10-0 win over Middletown South.

Tommy Ruth (Red Bank): Ruth drove in five runs and had three doubles, including a go-ahead three-run two-bagger and pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win in the Bucs’ 8-7 win over Freehold.

Andrew Gendi (Matawan): Gendi picked up the win in the unbeaten Huskies’ 9-1 win over Ocean with 5 2/3 innings one-run ball. He then went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a 10-0 win over St. John Vianney.
