NYPD: 48-year-old arrested in connection with armed car robbery on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- A 48-year-old male has been arrested in connection with an armed car robbery in Elm Park Sunday morning, according to authorities.

A spokesperson for the NYPD stated that two 20-year-olds reported they were at a red light around 12:35 a.m. on Sunday when a 2005 BMW X3 pulled in front of their car, preventing them from continuing forward, at the intersection of Morningstar Road and Richmond Terrace.

The victims told police that after being stopped, a man exited the BMW while visibly armed. The two fled their 2021 Ford Mustang and contacted the police. The male then allegedly entered the Ford vehicle and attempted to flee in the victim’s vehicle, according to police.

While an investigation is ongoing, Mariners Harbor resident Roger Cummins has been charged with several crimes, including robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny auto, criminal possession of stolen property and reckless endangerment, police stated.

The 121st Precinct touted the arrest on X:

“Last night, Sgt. Dagostino and PO Diaz responded to a robbery in progess. The perpetrator was carrying this loaded firearm with an extended magazine. Your 121 officers work tirelessly, night after night, to rid our community of illegal firearms.”
