A man has been arrested for a hit-and-run crash that killed a Fort Myers man back in October of 2022 at the intersection of Metro Parkway and Old Metro. According to the Fort Myers Police Department, on Oct. 31, 2022, a head-on collision occurred, resulting in the death of 47-year-old Louinel Mirand of Fort Myers. The initial investigation determined that a Ford F-150 was traveling in the wrong direction on Metro Parkway. The investigation found the suspected driver of the F-150 that caused the crash. The Fort Myers Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit submitted a warrant request to the state attorney’s office who granted the warrant. Early Thursday morning, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested 34-year-old Lazaro Yosvany Bello-Ruiz for DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of the crash resulting in death. Mirand’s sister told WINK News on Thursday that the news of her brother’s passing was the most devastating news their family has ever received. She said they are still dealing with the effects of his loss. Read her full statement to WINK below: The death of my brother was the most devastating news that our family could have ever received! We are still dealing with the effects of this great loss. My mother still has nightmares about this. Her heart breaks to know that her first son departed this world before her, yet in such a horrible way!! Louinel was a very loving and hard-working man. He always had a smile on his face. He has 2 beloved children who will never see him and experience their father in their lives! We praise God that an arrest was made, and we’re praying for a conviction because his death was due to a negligent person who has no regard for human life and the law! We want to see justice served! Myriame Lavoile, Louinel Mirand’s sister WINK News also talked with a neighbor who lives right next to the intersection. “It’s very dangerous,” John Skeens said, “a lot of speeding and as you can see, there’s police pulling in right now, but a lot of the cars, just motorcycles and everything else.
