A violent outburst on Collins Avenue this weekend took a tragic turn after a 21-year-old woman was killed and eight others wounded in a late-night shooting. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said in a statement obtained by the Dallas Police Department, "I have many questions about what happened last night that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman, and eight people being injured."

The gunfire erupted early Saturday morning in the 4500 block of Collins Avenue, where police, arriving after a reported large party had dispersed, found themselves against a backdrop of renewed violence around 1:35 am. Originally responding to calls of gunfire at approximately 11:10 pm, they found no criminal activity upon their arrival and instead monitored what appeared to be a peaceful assembly of around 45-50 people. However, the peace was short-lived as shots rang out hours later in the crowded street.

Among the victims was Coriesha Bradford, who succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital later. The other injured parties, consisting of seven women and two men, reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to make a recovery. According to the preliminary investigation, the chaos started when one person fired shots into the crowd, followed by others joining the gunfire. Detectives are pointing to possible gang involvement, as per the Dallas Police Department. Presently, no suspect has been put forward in the investigation.

Garcia vowed to leave no stone unturned, stating, "Our homicide detectives are currently working to determine who was involved in this incident, and how." In his commitment to transparency and accountability, Garcia also disclosed that an internal review is underway to scrutinize the police response to the incident. Witnesses or those with information are urged to contact Detective Phillip Wheeler, as investigators grapple with case number 058327-2024 and the senseless violence that has left a community in mourning, as per the Dallas Police Department.
