LISTEN: Planet of Ghosts Keep It Fuzzed Out On Distorted “Z-Man NYC’

Enter into the fuzzy, psychedelic garage rock of Planet of Ghosts on their hypnotic new single “Z-Man NYC”. The distorted textures evoke a youthful energy that infects the room with acid-drenched guitar work and soaring melodies. The warping tones coil around your ears like a cobra despite this being a loose single with bright chords and chugging tempos. There is something inherently infectious about “Z-Man NYC”, Planet of Ghosts captured artsy lighting in the bottle and morphed it into a punk-heavy onslaught of distorted bliss and kaleidoscope-style textures.

“The song ‘Z-Man NYC’ originally came about early on in the recording sessions for the album. We had been jamming a bunch of really intense stuff, really dissonant, and sonically things were starting to feel super heavy. So we intentionally started writing a new song that was really dopey, kind of happy-go-lucky. It stayed that way until we were nearing the end of the recording sessions,” explains Adam Kure. “By then we already had a handful of lighthearted material to pick from so we started cranking up the distortion and the fuzzed-out wahs on Z-Man. It quickly went from this bouncy Pixies kind of song to a much dirtier garage/psych thing. For some reason, it reminds me a bit of the old Modest Mouse song ‘Summer’. Like an anthem from a house party band or something.”
