Future And Metro Boomin, Key Glock And Young Dolph, And More Hip-Hop Releases Of The Week

Today is Friday, which means there are a ton of new releases to look forward to from some of your favorite Hip-Hop artists. To help you unwind and enjoy the weekend, check out VIBE’s picks of songs and albums you should hear and add to your soundtrack of weekend festivities.

Future And Metro Boomin – We Still Don’t Trust You

Just when it seems Future and Metro Boomin have peaked as a duo, they level up again with their second album in one month. We Still Don’t Trust You leans more into pop and R&B, but it fuses their natural Hip-Hop dispositions, too. J. Cole makes a surprise appearance on “Red Leather,” where a happily married Cole reveals he’s jealous of Future having 20 women. The Weeknd also brings his emotive croons to several records.

A$AP Rocky and Lil Baby add fiery verses to the LP, with the former taking shots at Drake and Travis Scott. The most impressive outing is “All To Myself,” where Future goes full bedroom anthem. At this point, one can’t ever limit what Future and Metro Boomin can bring to the table. They may have trust issues with their enemies, but they trust each other to delve into different musical arenas and make magic. – Armon Sadler

Key Glock Featuring Young Dolph – “Let’s Go”

Since 2023, Key Glock’s “Let’s Go” took over the internet, whether it showed up on basketball highlights or TikTok reels. Its remix, featuring the late Young Dolph, adds even more energy to the hit record. It’s a special collaboration, given their relationship before Dolph’s death, and it shows how great their chemistry is despite Dolph’s posthumous verse. It makes listeners wonder what it would be like to see them performing this track in a live setting; the adrenaline would be off the charts. Alas, we settle for this offering which hits the mark and will continue the popular record’s momentum. – AS

Anycia – “Bad Weather”

Anycia jumps into her West Coast bag on “Bad Weather.” It’s a low-rider anthem to the fullest, with drop-top synths and nimble hi-hats. The most endearing part is her whisper delivery. There’s something smooth and sensual, yet cool about it. This may be the type of record that a rapper would approach aggressively, but the Atlanta rapper opts for more laid-back vocals. Anycia talks about women who hate on her and how they are best fit for men who are broke. Meanwhile, she’s getting money and the men best for her love her. It’s a calm bop, and a sign of greatness to come. – AS

Chow Lee – “SNA!”

Chow Lee is one of the best samples or interpolators in today’s music landscape. He was challenged on social media to flip WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels’ popular entrance song “Sexy Boy,” and he stuck the landing on “SNA!” The acronym, which stands for “Sexiest Ni**a Alive” is a confident boast and tribute to the sexy drill subgenre that he, Cash Cobain, and others have initiated. It employs the usual, anticipatory type production where listeners wait for a climax that never happens. However, sprinkled throughout the track are faint “Sexy Boy!” background vocals. You almost can’t believe that Chow did it, but he did. We are thankful for it. – AS

Kodak Black – “Stressed Out”

Kodak Black has been more introspective than ever before, and that can be heard on “Stressed Out.” The production is somber, utilizing minimal hi-hats and soft guitar strums, as he reflects on legal troubles, family issues, and feeling like God is testing him. Yes, Kodak has had problems throughout his career, but he’s often masked his stress with confident and braggadocious lyrics.

However, this record comes off as if he has reached a threshold where it’s weighing him down. “Seems like I’m all out of blessings,” he says in the hook. This may be the maturity or accountability people hoped he would reach at some point; the question is: when is it too late to confront the realities of his life because he is too far gone? – AS

Talib Kweli and Madlib – Liberation 2

Talib Kweli and Madlib have joined forces yet again on Liberation 2, a project steeped in revolutionary vibes and darts aimed at merchants of division and hate. The follow-up to the pair’s critically acclaimed 2007 project, Liberation 2, finds Talib and Madlib reconnecting without missing a beat, delivering 15 tracks that stand as a call to arms for the marginalized and disenfranchised.

Loaded with standout tracks from top to bottom, Liberation 2 includes gems like “Best Year Ever,” “Air Quotes,” “One For Biz,” “Loop Digga’s Revenge,” “After These Messages,” “Richies Part Two,” and “Something Special.” Bolstered by a smorgasbord of guest appearances by the late Mac Miller, Meshell Ndegeocello, Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn, Goapele, Q-Tip, Roy Ayers, and others, Liberation 2 is a powerful long-player that finds Kweli near the top of his game.

And with Madlib’s production, soundtracking the festivities, it makes for the perfect array of canvases for the Brooklynite to pepper his vivid rhymes over. – Preezy Brown

Ray Vaughn – Blasphemy

Ray Vaughn looks to “F**k up the forecast” on “Blasphemy,” the TDE rapper’s latest single, which is accompanied by a visual that captures Vaughn and crew wreaking havoc in a church. Produced by Boi 1da, OZ, and SMPLGTWY, the thumping beat conjures thoughts of controlled chaos, with Vaughn altering his delivery and flow throughout. “I’m just being me, don’t be mad at me/ You ain’t gonna f**k me, that’s blasphemy/ I know the guys gon’ blast for me,” the promising lyricist drawls on the hook, his nonchalance transforming into a spirited rallying cry. – PB

NASAAN Featuring Royce Da 5’9″ – “GOATED”

As the son of late D12 founder Proof, NASAAN being considered Detroit royalty is his birthright. Yet, the upstart has taken it upon himself to carry on his father’s legacy by following in his footsteps into the booth. Presenting himself as the Motor City’s next potential standout, the rapper links up with family friend and lyrical animal Royce Da 5’9″ on “GOATED,” a release on which NASAAN goes full throttle, dropping a flurry of cocksure couplets while keeping pace with his elder counterpart.

Arriving on the 18th anniversary of Proof’s tragic passing, “GOATED” marks NASAAN’s own coming of age, as he prepares to take the next step in his career with the release of his forthcoming project ERROR 404. Scheduled to drop on May 31, ERROR 404 is slated to include features from Babytron, Swavay, Pooh Beatz, and Turbo. With him securing an NBA licensing partnership for “GOATED,” Nasaan looks to be well on his way to taking his name and sound national. – PB

Maiya The Don – “Mean It”

Maiya The Don returns with her latest single “Mean It,” a sensuous number that finds her turning up the heat while asserting herself as a demanding lover. “Show me that you need it, that you need it/ Say it like you mean it, like you mean it,” Maiya purrs on the hook before inviting all of the smoke in the bedroom.

“Baby boy, be real bold, say it with your chest out/ Texting getting real old, come and blowback,” she commands In the opening verse, leaving all inhibitions at the door over production courtesy of Bankroll Got It. Despite having stamped herself as one of New York’s fastest-rising prospects with her 2023 debut Hot Commodity, the Brooklynite has shown no signs of letting up, with “Mean It” foreshadowing another onslaught of material to come. – PB

DThang – “Many Opps”

Bronx rapper DThang proved he could not be contained with his exoneration on criminal charges earlier this year and has been back with a vengeance on the musical tip. The drill rap sensation detonates on his latest bomb “Many Opps,” a track inspired by 50 Cent’s classic Get Rich or Die Tryin’ cut “Many Men.” The song finds DThang giving fair warning to his enemies and rivals, making it clear he’s well-equipped for warfare. “I don’t know why these ni***s be playing with us/ I think all my opps smoking angel dust/ I ain’t going nowhere without gang and ’em,” he raps atop an instrumental sampling hints of the original, with “Many Opps” continuing his hot streak since his departure from the penal system. – PB
