The sign is known for its vibrant colors and “Welcome to Mosquito Beach” written in cursive, the sheriff’s office said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

They say the sign has a lot of sentimental and historical value to the area’s residents.

Deputies thanked the Clemson Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
