Bay Area psychedelic soul outfit Moonalice is offering free entry to its weekend concerts to those with tickets to  the Grateful Dead-centric Skull & Roses festival in Ventura, CA following the event’s abrupt cancellation on Tuesday.

On Thursday, April 18th, Moonalice will celebrate its own new holiday “Tricycle Day” with a show at Felton Music Hall in Felton, CA. Everyone who attends will receive a free poster, with the band noting, “It’s a new holiday, so we will be creative.” The next night, Moonalice will celebrate Bicycle Day—commemorating chemist Albert Hoffman‘s first LSD trip in 1943—at Rancho Nicasio Restaurant & Bar in Nicasio where everyone will receive a poster and “the set list will reflect the occasion.” Finally, on Saturday, April 20th, Moonalice will celebrate the high holy day at the HopMonk Tavern in Sebastopol with a Gathering Of The Tribe at which everyone will receive a package of 20+ posters created especially for the show. The band also noted that “there will be a few surprises” at the 4/20 performance.

To secure entry to the Moonalice shows, Skull & Roses ticket-holders must email their name, contact information, and a photo of their ticket to management@moonalice.com with “Skull & Roses” in the subject line. They must also bring their Skull & Roses ticket to the show.

“Skull & Roses was a fantastic festival and we were lucky to play there many times. The festival and its fans deserved a much happier ending,” Moonalice’s Roger McNamee wrote on social media. “We think the right thing to do is give folks who had S&R tickets free entry to our shows on April 18, 19, and 20.”

The sixth edition of Skull & Roses was set for April 19th–21st at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. On Tuesday, however, festival founder Chris Mitrovich announced the cancellation of the festival just ten days before it was due to begin. Mitrovich wrote in a statement that “the financial devastation of the 2023 2023 show made it impossible to sustain the weight of the new production.”

The founder’s somewhat ambiguous statement on the refund policy has caused controversy online. As he wrote, “While tickets and hotels were sold on a non-refundable basis, we sincerely wish that funds were available to refund all purchases. Unfortunately, this is simply not the case at this time.”

Live For Live Music has reached out to Skull & Roses for comment on the refund policy.
