Alice In Chains’ ‘Jar Of Flies’ Debuts On Five Billboard Charts

Following

Alice In Chains made history decades ago when their project Jar of Flies debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The set was the first EP to launch in first place on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. In the years since, it has sold millions of copies–and now it’s making waves once again thanks to a special anniversary.

The hard rock band recently re-released Jar of Flies as a collector’s edition vinyl to celebrate the EP’s thirtieth anniversary. Fans of the group were quick to pick up a copy, and now their support has helped the title become a chart win yet again.

This week, Jar of Flies returns to a number of Billboard charts. The set also debuts on five rankings that it either didn’t reach the first time around, or which didn’t exist when the EP was first released in 1994.

Of the five rankings that Jar of Flies reaches for the first time this week, it launches highest on the Vinyl Albums chart. On that tally, which tracks only the bestselling titles on the format, the group’s EP starts at No. 1.

Jar of Flies is also a brand new top 10 hit on two other Billboard albums charts. The EP debuts at No. 3 on the Top Hard Rock Albums ranking and No. 10 on the Top Alternative Albums list. It also arrives on both the Top Rock Albums (No. 14) and Top Rock & Alternative Albums (No. 18) rosters for the first time, though it doesn’t quite crack the highest tier on either.

In the past tracking week, Jar of Flies sold another 9,388 copies in the U.S. alone. That’s enough for the EP to relaunch on the Top Album Sales chart. It has previously ruled that ranking, and now it’s back at No. 6.

The EP is also present on the Billboard 200 once again, for the first time in quite a while. Jar of Flies re-enters that all-consumption ranking at No. 91, a far cry from the top spot, which it once inhabited. The short project moved another 11,481 equivalent units, according to Luminate, with most of those being actual purchases.
