After a year hiatus, Charleston City Paper and Theatre 99 have teamed up once again to bring back laughter and comedic relief to cure the post-holiday blues. February 2022 will mark the 19th annual Charleston Comedy Festival, the premier comedy event of the Southeast.

Performers and comedy troupes from the country’s top comedy hotbeds have been invited to perform during the four-day event featuring stand-up, sketch, and improv performers from Feb. 23-26.

Lisa Smith, a South Carolina native, has been performing standup comedy nationally for 7 years. In that span of time, she was awarded the coveted spot as resident comedian at Star Bar and Laughing Skull Lounge in Atlanta, GA. She has also perform in Skullfest, Chattanooga, and Red Clay Comedy Festivals.  Additionally, Lisa was a finalist in the Charleston Comedy Competition and won the Atlanta Punchline’s Sunday Comedy Festival. Not only does Lisa perform all throughout the southeast, she also runs a monthly storytelling show called Love is Trash, where comics tell their funny stories of love lost.

Little bit of Stand-Up. Little bit of Improv. Lotsa bit of LAUGHS.

Hosted by comedians Tim Hoeckel and Vince Fabra, This and That with Tim and Vince opens with banter from the duo. Their chemistry crackles as they catch up since their last hang or unpack an interesting premise.

Next, each comedian will perform a set of stand-up comedy. Vince is funny. Tim is funnier.

Finally, they close the show with improv scenes inspired by details and themes from their stand-up sets.

Tim and Vince previously hosted a monthly show with this same format at Theatre 99 and are excited to reunite for ONE NIGHT ONLY in the Charleston Comedy Festival. Join them at the Sparrow on Thursday, February 24 for a little bit of This and That with Tim and Vince.

Kate Willett is a comedian, actress, and writer whose raunchy feminist storytelling is both smart and relatable.  She’s the author of the Audible Original “Dirtbag Anthropology.” She just made her network debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and she has a 15 minute special on Netflix’s “Comedy Lineup.” She’s the cohost of the political comedy podcast Reply Guys.

She’s been a correspondent for the JIM JEFFERIES SHOW at Politicon and a featured comic on Viceland’s FLOPHOUSE.  Her appearance on Comedy Central’s THIS IS NOT HAPPENING was on Splitsider’s list of  “Best Late Night Standup Sets.” In the past, she toured with Margaret Cho nationally and internationally and has featured with comedians like Kyle Kinane, Maria Bamford, and Greg Behrendt.

She has appeared in the Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival, Limestone Comedy Festival, Laughing Skull Festival, Big Sky Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest and High Plains.  Podcast appearances include Doug Loves Movies, Bad Faith, Basic Witches, The Bullseye, Jordan Jesse Go! and Risk!  Her debut album is “Glass Gutter.”
