What time is the solar eclipse and how to watch it on TV

The total solar eclipse will be making its journey across North America on Monday, April 8. If you can’t view it safely outside, here is how to watch it on TV.

The eclipse will first appear over the South Pacific Ocean and begin its journey across North America. Mexico’s Pacific coast is the first point of totality on the path, expected at 2:07 p.m. ET and the eclipse is expected to end on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland at 3:46 p.m. ET. Those trying to view the solar eclipse outside are urged to do so safely by using specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing. An average pair of sunglasses will not do and are not safe to wear when looking directly at the sun.

For anyone who cannot view the eclipse safely outside can watch it on TV. NBC and CBS News will both be broadcasting the solar eclipse at 2 p.m. EST. Viewers looking to watch it on NBC can do so by using FuboTV and DirecTV Stream and those looking to watch it on CBS can do so by using FuboTV, DirecTV Stream or Paramount+. All three streaming services offer free trials for new users.

NASA will also offer three different broadcasts of the eclipse, where the moon will completely block out the sun in some areas, each showing a different perspective.

Viewers can figure out when the solar eclipse will be passing by their area by viewing the map on NASA’s website.
