FERGUSON — Police on Wednesday identified the two men who died here early Tuesday after an officer walked out of a QuikTrip and shot at a suspect who was shooting at another man.
The shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. in the 10700 block of West Florissant, St. Louis County police said.
A Ferguson police officer was walking out of the QuikTrip and heard gunshots, police said. He saw Joshua Campbell, 18, shooting at 26-year-old Detarius Haynes.
The officer fired his service weapon at Campbell and hit him, police said.
Haynes collapsed near a gas pump and Campbell ran to West Florissant Avenue before collapsing, police said.
Both men died at the scene.
Investigators said the two men came to the gas station in the same car.

The Ferguson officer, who is 37 years old and has about nine years of law enforcement experience, was not injured, police said.
Campbell lived in the 1500 block of Knollway Drive in Ferguson, police said. Haynes lived in the Spanish Lake area in the 900 block of Coal Bank Road.
